Galería del Paseo
Galería del Paseo was founded in 1998 and for the past ten years has been carrying out a dynamic program of activities aimed at sponsoring principally Uruguayan artists, with a focus on contemporary art. Located in the heart of Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo’s historic district, it holds exhibitions characterized by the inclusion of paintings, sculptures, photography, installations, and video-work.
In the year 2004, Galería del Paseo inaugurated a branch in the exclusive Manantiales resort of Punta del Este where during the summer season the Gallery has consolidated its contemporary profile, carrying out an intensive calendar of exhibitions, such as the recent First Contemporary Art Biennial “Mirá Manantiales” (January 2006), a first-time-ever event for Punta del Este, bringing together a group of Latin American artists and including other visual languages, such as installations, urban intervention, performances, video-work, and music.
Galería del Paseo has organized and implemented joint projects with other galleries and institutions abroad, including participations in exhibitions and art shows in Buenos Aires (ArteBA 2003/04), Miami (Art Miami 2003 and Arteamerica 2005), New York (Art New York 2003), and Mexico City (Muestra 2, 2003). On its own, the gallery has participated in the 2003 APEU Art Show in Montevideo, the International Show Arte:Arte 2005 (Punta del Este), ArteBA 2005 and ArteBA 2008 (Buenos Aires), Buenos Aires Photo 2008, among others.
The artists of Galería del Paseo have a significant national and international track record, having participated in Latin American biennials, and their works can be found in private and public collections.
