Ernesto Vila
Montevideo, 1936.

When he was twenty three years old he joined Taller de Torres García.
His teachers were José Gurvich and Guillermo Fernández. In 1966 he travelled to Europe with a group of Gurvich´s pupils, under the denomination Taller Montevideo. They made quinetic murals and great installations in Holand, Spain, England, France, Italy and USA. Between 1972 and 1978 he was a political prisoneer en Montevideo. Once he regained his freedom he emigrated to Paris where he lived from 1980 until 1986.
From 1991 he worked as a curator at Museo Torres García, Centro Cultural de Maldonado and Museo Sívori de Buenos Aires.

Biennials:
In 1970 he participated in the VI Bienal de Jóvenes de París, in the 35 Bienal de Venecia and in the Festival de Ravinia in Chicago
In 1989 he was part of the Uruguayan presentation to the Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador
In 1997 he was part of the Uruguayan presentation to the VI Bienal de La Habana
In 2003 he was part of the Uruguayan presentation to the 4ta. Bienal del Mercosur
In 2007 he represented Uruguay at the last Bienal de Venezia.
